Crossword update
Jul. 29th, 2002 01:24 amThe short version, for the month of July.
July 1-7: even with ideal score, total time 83:51, no mistakes
July 8-4: down 570, total time 100:33, one letter wrong
July 15-21: down 995, total time 87.47, 62 letters wrong
July 22-28: down 245, total time 78.48, 4 letters wrong
What I'm learning is:
(a) I don't seem to be getting notably faster;
(b) I don't seem to be getting notably more accurate (indeed, there were some truly stupid mistakes in the past month, like thinking Memphis was SSE of Chicago, not SSW, and not checking to see that "Dentist's request" was WIDER, not EIDER); and
(c) I don't seem to be doing any better overall.
It's not what you'd call wholly encouraging.
Possibly I should actually be rating myself against my roommate--allot myself four times her finishing time, with an ideal of twice her time (I mean, she's fast) or maybe 1.5 times her time; this might give me a better measure of whether a puzzle was singularly easy or singularly hard.
But even so, I just feel like I'm not actually improving. Sigh.
