Internet Rumors
May. 14th, 2003 04:05 amA few weeks ago, The Register reported that "RIAA's Rosen [is] 'writing Iraq copyright laws'". Not, I admit, the most comforting thought.
However: this article is all "according to investigative journalist Gregory Palast" and includes phrases like "if true." And I have yet to see a single other report of this fact not taken directly from The Register. Not in a search of Google News, not in a search of Google Groups, not on the RIAA website, not on CNN.
By now, of course, most people have probably forgotten the Register article. But it annoys me to see what seem to be baseless rumors wandering the internet--or rather, since I know that that's more or less what the internet is for, it annoys me to see news sites distributing loose rumors as fact.
