I'm starting to get really annoyed with Opera. For instance:
I think I'm ready to downgrade. If only I could.
- The only installer on their website is for Opera 7. (That is, the only one for Windows, of course.)
- Help no longer opens a help program; it instead goes to the Opera web page help section...
- ...using the browser window you have open, i.e. as opposed to opening a new window so that the page you were looking at is still easily accessible...
- ...and most of the help is for Opera 6 or before.
- I can't find a way to get it so that, as in Opera 6, moving over a link gives the URL of that link in the status bar--in fact, I have no status bar. Or wherever it showed it.
- The space bar no longer functions merely as a "page down" key. It also, when you reach the bottom of the page, takes you to what Opera thinks is the "next page" from there. This is annoying because (a) I'm accustomed to scrolling with the space bar, which is easier to find and easier to press than page-down, and now I hit the bottom of a page and find myself being taken to a new one; and (b) on at least one website I read, it gets it wrong because the links at the bottom are for "next newest topic" and "next oldest topic" and Opera chooses the latter.
- When I imported my Opera 6 bookmarks, which were carefully sorted in each folder by either frequency of use (most-used at the top) or semantically (my linguistics folder had conferences, and then journals, and then other resources, for example), Opera 7 alphabetized everything.
I think I'm ready to downgrade. If only I could.
