Flit made me do it
Jun. 25th, 2003 03:42 pmRobert Benchley said, " Anyone can do any amount of work, provided it isn't the work he is supposed to be doing at that moment." It turns out that I'm capable of doing any amount of work, provided it's also not even the work I'm not supposed to be doing.
I was writing cryptic clues last night for the puzzle I'm cowriting for the NPL convention in a few weeks, and I quoted one or two to some people I was chatting with.
flit's reaction was, "That's DEMENTED," and I told her, no, Crazy men start to talk during action (8) is DEMENTED. She was--either impressed or terrified, it was hard to tell, but challenged to write a few more for more or less obscure words, I ended up with:
Give a bad review to expert with a cure-all (7)
Fermentation science puts alcohol back into three bodies in a row, but not the first two (7)
Throw out the window for crazy, resented feat (12)
Invested percentage, holding off in conclusion (9)
Figured it couldn't hurt to throw them at a larger audience. If only I were having any success at writing the ones for the puzzle I need to have done in the next two weeks.

Date: 2003-06-25 11:53 pm (UTC)I'm still working on that first puzzle.
Every time I am about to give up I (tauntingly) get another one, but it's hard work.
I had to use Google to verify that 'A bit of oleomargarine for General Bradley (4)' was what I thought it was... one of the general knowledge ones that I tend to be scanty on.
I shake my fist! :)
