Culture shock
Mar. 18th, 2005 02:04 amSome things I can't help finding a little disconcerting:
- Paying the bus fare with a couple of coins in my pocket.
- Having one of those coins be worth $2.
- Conversely, paying $11 for all-you-can-eat sushi.
- Gas stations that advertise their price per litre.
and of course
- The fact that I'm giving a conference talk in a little over 12 hours.
(I was going to head the first four items with "Things that surprise me no matter how often I leave the country," but that's because--well, I never did get around to posting "ten things true about me (but probably no one else on my friends list)", but one of them is "I've (now) been out of the country exactly twice, and I went to the same city both times.")
