Academia isn't really an "ivory tower"; it's a job, like any other. All the same, when I posted asking if people had leads on jobs, I got a number of responses saying "Send your resume to..." And I thought: "Resume? You mean my CV?" It hadn't even occurred to me to put together a resume before asking.

Now of course I find I have no real idea how to write a resume. Sigh.

Did I ever point you at this? Written some while back, and aimed at the UK where the theoretical time for a PhD is three years, but...

No, I hadn't actually seen that. Quite nice. Fortunately, for freelance work, I don't think I'll be encountering too much of the "you won't really fit into this office setting" bias, and here's hoping I don't have to look for non-academic jobs after this...

I'm fairl sure a CV will do for the jobs I pointed you to.

Really? This CV (http://www.mit.edu/~tahnan/nathan-cv.pdf) would be of interest to potential employers?

(In looking for resume-writing advice, I discovered that apparently "CV" is used in Europe for "more thorough resume", which explains the Sting line in the subject. A European CV probably would be fine for a proofreading job; an academic CV...seems less likely.)

FWIW, the MIT career office will help you write and edit a resume. They are very good and will look over your stuff and will help you find ideas and places to apply that you might not have though about. It is a great resource.
