Who makes, and why does Sci-Fi show, movies this crappy?

Oh, wait. Maybe it's because idiots like me watch them. (I was going to keep a running list of plot holes and stupid plot points--the police chief who's positive that Our Hero is the one who murdered the hockey player, even though the cause of death is completely incomprehensible--but it was going to turn into a hole/point every thirty seconds. Too much work. Oh, look, Our Hero just went to the police with the evidence he gained from a secret camera in the girls' shower! Boy, that's clever of him.)

But actually, I'm working. So there.

I actually have worked with some of the people that make these movies.

They're usually just-graduated film students or people that make movies in their spare time for the hell of it, and after the movie's made, they try to find someone to buy it at festivals or whatever.
