Just posted a rant in my Other Journal, which I'm not going to cut and paste here. If you're curious, and you don't read my other journal, ask me, I can mail it to you, or if demand is high, I can post it here.

But I'll summarize it: "Curses," the seminal interactive fiction game by Graham Nelson, sucks. It is a terrible, unfair game with huge gaping flaws that outweigh any plotting or writing merits the game might have.

I don't really remember how fun it was as a game. I discovered it soon after Nelson released it in 1994, and thus it was the first post-Infocom IF I had ever played, so the magic of this fact overrode any qualms I might have otherwise had with it, I think. I do remember that I had to consult the walkthrough at least a few times.
