I have friends who review self-published (or vanity-press-published) picture books. Some of them can be kind of terrible. None of them, fortunately, have been this book.

Presented without further comment: Alfie's Home, by Richard A. Cohen, of the International Healing Foundation (website: gaytostraight.com).

What she said!
So scary. Way worse than "LaTonya the Naught Horse"

yeah, i know about that one. and you're right: jade or i could easily have gotten it for review, if we'd had our current jobs in 1993 when it was published.

Did it get reviewed by your organization then?

didn't exist then. we're a new attempt to squeeze profit margins out of publishing.

I should have figured y'all'd've seen it already, though (a) it was worth passing it along to my now-horrified friendslist, and (b) it did give me the chance to use the three-apostrophe word near the start of this sentence.

You could write it now.
Actually, how well do they check that the submitter is the author? Could you submit the horrible book your rival wrote?

i don't know how well they check those things, but even if they didn't, you'd have to fork up the $350 that it costs to purchase one of these caveat emptor reviews.

Given sufficient malice, that might be worth it to somebody.

Yeah, I know, I know. Look at the bright side: if this is the best that the "cure the gays" movement can do, no one will ever take them seriously. (Sadly, I know that they do much more pernicious and reasonable-sounding things, but at least one can rest assured that no one will ever read this book and think, "Oh, of course! I'm not gay, I'm mad at my father!".)

Yeah, it's so sad and tired that it's about as offensive to me as a stale fart. I got angrier at the comment added to the bottom of the page. Yes, Dr. Seuss books are no longer available to children, because all picture books are now either this or "Daddy's Roommate". locked in a mutual tooth-to-neck struggle, forever. Fooey.

Dear lord.

That's... words fail me utterly. "Despicable" kind of comes to mind.

Fork and I were talking last night about the holy rollers' attempts to "straighten" people. We came to the conclusion that we should tell them that lots of grass and LSD would do the trick. That should keep 'em locked in some sort of recursive battle for a few decades...

This book... ewwww.
