It took me a minute to parse the following sentence (in a letter from the administration):

If enrollment in this course Springs below nine students between January 14-February 2, contact me immediately...

Search and replace is your friend. Except when it isn't.

So, I guess this also means that you don't need to contact this person if enrollment slowly and gradually drops below nine students.

When my UK publisher was doing search and replace to Anglicize the book, they accidentally changed "armor" to "amour" throughout the entire book.

Btw, if you're changing a word from, say, Russian or Greek letters to our letters, is what you're doing "Anglicizing" the word? No worries if you don't know. It just struck me that you might.

I've been struggling with what to say I've done with a Martian name that I've translated to English.

That's transliterating. I know transliterating covers changing between alphabets. I don't know what the term is for converting Chinese characters or other types of pictograms to an alphabet. (Just in case Martians use pictograms instead of an alphabet.)

This reminds me of a Reader's Digest story about a priest who commonly gave the same eulogy to congregation members he didn't know very well. His method of saving time with good old Control-F went sour the first time he mentioned the Virgin Betty.
