My wife, because she knows me and loves me, got me a new computer battery for Christmas.

Unfortunately, now that I've left it plugged in overnight, i's now wholly apparent that the problem here isn't the battery, but rather the fact that my computer won't charge a battery. Anyone have a sense of where locally that could be repaired, and for how much?

Ugh.

Ok. You have a Dell 600m, right? There are a lot of reports on the web about the power jack on the 600m's being faulty, which results both in the battery not charging and with the power connection being finicky and easily disconnecting. Sound familiar?

As for repair.... This place is in Brockton and offers a flat fee of $130 plus the cost of the jack (usually around $15). This one in Londonderry, NH is also a possibility. Hmmm.... Nerds Next Door also apparently do laptop DC jack repair and have a presence in the Boston area.

Of course, I just found these places by googling for 'boston laptop "power jack" repair'. So I have no idea which one is best.
