All right, we tried to move a couch into our apartment, and it didn't fit, and now it's sitting on the back porch. So I tried posting it for sale on Craigslist; no takers. Then I tried posting it for free on Craigslist, and again, no takers. And then I called the Salvation Army and said "please, I have furniture I'd like to give you, come get it", and they never called back.

The next step, probably this weekend, is to move it out to the front curb, and since I can't lift it in one piece, that's going to mean a crowbar, a knife, and possibly the kitchen torch. But before that happens, if anyone has any good ideas that don't involve us lifting it anywhere, please, I'm all ears.

Freecycle? A local battered women's shelter?

I should add: ideas that don't involve us lifting it, and are more or less immediate. I don't think I have the patience to deal with freecycle; I don't feel like sitting around the house waiting for people to show up who never do. A local shelter is a fine idea as long as they'd come relatively immediately (and again, assuming they'd come and take it; I'm not taking it anywhere).

Would it help to have four more hands to help move it to the curb in one piece? We have time tomorrow morning or early afternoon.

Although, come to think of it, I bet the crowbar-and-torch solution would be satisfyingly cathartic.

on a non-couch related note..

It was great seeing you, albeit briefly, last weekend, and getting to know your lovely wife!

I would hit Craigslist free stuff again. And/or get some extra hands to move it to the curb whole. Or go ahead and make mincemeat out of it with the torch, but in that case be sure to capture it on video in case something goes terribly or hilariously wrong.

By the way, I assume this is a different couch than the one we just barely DID get into your apartment?

This is indeed a different couch than the one I am currently happily sitting on.

I might retry the Craigslist thing; it's just a matter of having the patience to deal with waiting around for people who don't show up.

My neighbor put a big sign at the intersection near our houses that said "Free Couch", and it went pretty quickly.
