When I forget to cook for too long, I forget how much I like cooking. Yesterday's excursion in the kitchen was a simple cold noodle salad, a longtime favorite around here. Today was somewaht busier: first, iced tea, with a great deal of sugar and a lemon (which involved unpacking the lemon juicer). Then the pot went back into use to boil more water, this time to turn yesterday's leftover mint into mint syrup (which involved a quick trip to the grocery store to get more sugar). Next, a whole lot of cole slaw, using up the head of cabbage and the leftover half-head in the fridge (which also ultimately involved unpacking the large serving bowl). Then, since I had leftover buttermilk, I made this cake, which was truly amazing (and which involved unpacking the electric mixer...you may see a pattern here about how we unpack); and finally, with that in the oven, I settled in to fry the chicken that had been soaking in the rest of the buttermilk since last night.
And, at the end of the day, this food did indeed wellf me; I am now wellfed. Also quite content about all the cooking. (Also hot. Next week: gazpacho, fruit salad, ice cream, and sitting in the air-conditioned bedroom.)

Except for the china, which I don't like, but Tim loves. And which (sadly) he told me there are two more boxes of in the attic. Poop!
