Knock, knock!
Aug. 3rd, 2010 07:07 pmBack from a trip back to Atlanta, to see my eight-months-pregnant sister-in-law (and for Michelle to attend her baby shower). Many good things, a few frustrating things, but the one thing I am absolutely compelled to report is my three-year-old cousin Jacob's favorite joke:
Fortunately, the sheer joy Jacob took in telling it made it mostly worth it. Also his determination, because if you didn't answer immediately he repeated "knock, knock!" (or else actually knocked on a table) until you did. And also the fact that sometimes he would say "Knock knock" and you'd answer "who's there?", and he'd get this intense look of concentration while he tried to decide what the next line should be.
Being a three year old is easy. Comedy is hard.
- Knock, knock! There were variants on this, such as
- Who's there?
- Chicken rock.
- Chicken rock who?
- Chicken rock you!
- Knock, knock!(There was also "Applesauce rock", but I'll spare you its details.) Sometimes the punchline varied a little; there was "Chicken rock mommy!" and so forth, but I think you get the idea. I had the chance to hear this joke, or one of its variants, a good thirty or forty times.
- Who's there?
- Lemonade rock.
- Lemonade rock who?
- Lemonade rock you!
