Congratulations, Owen Benjamin. I'm watching your 2010 "Comedy Central Presents" routine, and in the first fifteen minutes you've managed to tell jokes about how women always go to the bathroom together, and to repeat this rather ancient urban legend as if it happened to you in college. I believe that makes you the least funny person to appear on Comedy Central, and yes I'm fully aware that they used to show Mind of Mencia.

I have a distinct memory of Michael Landon telling the dead rabbit story on the Johnny Carson show, also claiming it happened to him.

The Snopes link above confirms your memory (it happened in April 1989, apparently four months after Carson told the same story as something that had happened to himself). They seem to suggest it originated around 1988, so Landon and Carson telling it at the time wasn't too outrageous; Owen Benjamin telling it in 2010 is just stale.
