You know, I thought my favorite quote from the day's news was from George Ricaurte, the scientist who published a report on the dangers of ecstacy after injecting the wrong drug into primates. As reported in Jon Carroll's SF Chronicle column, Ricaurte said: "We're scientists, not politicians," and later "We're not chemists. We get hundreds of chemicals here. It is not customary to check them." Well, I'm reassured about the scientific process.

But no, my favorite quote is from a press release sent out by the campaign of Ontario conservative Ernie Eves about his opponent in the current election: "Dalton McGuinty. He's an evil reptilian kitten eater from another planet." (Ironically, in a press release decrying the negative statements from other liberals.) Or perhaps my favorite quote is the bit where Eves acknowledged that the comment was "over-the-top" and nevertheless said "I'm not apologizing."

Remember that one next time you really need to insult someone: evil reptilian kitten-eater from another planet.

I actually noted the Ricaurte mistake because the original research (or something like it) had a prominent part when the discussion of Kyuss's post to kuroshin.org this February took an extremely bizarre turn.

Well, I have to wonder why the experiment was done only once. I suppose it might be because there is a limited supply of monkeys. However, experiments working or not working is often a lot more black box/witch-crafty than people would like to admit.

Wow. If I were Dalton McGuinty, I'd start using "Evil Reptilian Kitten Eater From Another Planet" as a campaign slogan. Imagine the logos.

I think his response was classy.

Mr. McGuinty smiled broadly when asked to confirm or deny that he eats small pets and comes from outer space.
"I love kittens, and I like puppies too," he said.
