So why the hell am I still sitting here?
Apr. 19th, 2005 05:21 amIt's blank verse blog week, as you (mostly) know;
At least I hope you know by now, because
At half past five, late on a Monday night
(Or early on a Tuesday morning) I
Have no desire for hunting down a link
That can explain this thing. At any rate,
I'll warn you that I'm not inclined to post
A huge amount, primarily because,
While I can write like this for hours on end
With only mild discomfort, little thought,
And gen'ral ease, that doesn't mean I want
To read it (so I apologize
To all my friends who, writing in this style,
Discover that I'm commenting much less:
It isn't that I'm loath to write blank verse
Within your blogs; it's much more likely I
Took one quick look, and gave up trying to parse).
I thought that I had something else to say,
But half past five, late on a Monday night,
Is not the best of times to hold a thought
For more than thirty seconds, fifty tops,
Or more than twenty-five iambic feet.
Alas, it's gone. Perhaps tomorrow, I
Will think of it again, and post it then.
(Oh hell. I see the sky is getting light:
It is tomorrow. Stupid dissertation.)

Date: 2005-04-19 01:54 pm (UTC)Far better for us simply to admit
That English speakers do not speak in verse
Nor anything much like pentameter,
Regardless of what critics have to say.
That said, I wish you well in all your work
(We haven't talked for quite a while, you see).
