[livejournal.com profile] cnoocy is a freak. The Max Raabe version of Oops, I Did It Again (MP3) is annoyingly compelling. Feel free to compare it to Richard Thompson's version (RealMedia). (I really, really want to hear the latter's arrangement of the traditional 13th century piece "Marry, Ageyn Hic Hev Donne Yt"--see his webpage about the album that contains it for details.)

Some things that annoy me unnecessarily about iTunes: the info window cycles through the song info in the order "title – album – artist" and not "title – artist – album". If something comes up on my iTunes that I'm having trouble placing and the title doesn't ring bells (or it's a title I know, but a cover version), I don't care what compilation album it happens to be on. The next thing I want to see is the artist. Damn it.

Also: since I listen to other people's music all the time when I'm at the Stata Center, I feel like I ought to share my music in return. But why are my options "share selected playlists" or "share the entire library plus all my playlists", rather than "share the entire library, but the playlists are no one's business"? If I have a playlist of "Music to have sex to", or one called "Songs that remind me of my ex" that includes The Who's "Best I Ever Had" (and, I'm quick to note, neither of these is the case), why can't I let people listen to any MP3 on my system without giving them this sort of personal information? Double damn it.

I had some other thoughts, I think, but oh, how they do slip away at three thirty in the morning.

I can't make the .smil file reveal its secrets to me, but this week's theme on Audiography is Big Band and I am currently sharing the Max Raabe file with them.

Alas--the NPR story, with links to RealAudio files, is here (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1506843); I tried to link directly to the one file, but you might have better luck there.

Hah. I bent the technology to my will.
I really need to buy some Richard Thompson on CD.

You could make a playlist consisting of your library and just share that.

Yeah, I did that, actually. But it nevertheless annoys me that I had to.

I don't have any MP3s by The Who, is the thing. Remind me some time, I'll tell you what is on the "Songs that remind me of my ex" playlist.
