Last year we flew* to Atlanta in December for about $240 a ticket.

This year, searching Delta's site for two arbitrarily chosen days a week apart around Christmas turns up $306/ticket, $386/ticket...

Of course, for Wednesday-Monday around Thanksgiving, its first suggestion is a $691/person ticket. It does have one for $400, if we're willing to take six hours to travel and go through DC. Followed by Huntsville, Alabama. Because, you know, it's hard for Delta to make it directly to Atlanta.

New policy: I'm not traveling anywhere I can't get by subway.

*Were supposed to fly. Flight was cancelled. But we bought the tickets, anyway.

Wow, yeah, I hear you. I was considering spending a week or so in Atlanta around the Winter Christian Holidays with my brother, but that plan might not be reasonable anymore.

Stupid Natural Phenomena.

Doesn't meet your criterion for speed, but Amtrak BOS-ATL roundtrip is just under $600 for 2 travelers, including the $160 for a sleeper-car cabin. takes a day each way, with a transfer in DC. If you're willing to sleep sitting up it's almost as cheap as last year's airfare.

Because they gave me fares of $388 per person (Wed-Sun Thanksgiving week) if you don't mind a redeye on the way back. No more than one stop each way.

If price is any indicator, I'm scared to see how much it'll be to get to Stamford...

And that's before they decide to slap a fuel surcharge on those tickets...
