Look, I don't want to suggest that the nice folks who maintain the Sprint website are morons, but...no, wait, that's exactly what I want to suggest.

On their Support Webpage, they have a login to check your account online. Of course, it requires a password, but it does have a convenient "forgot your password?" link.

Of course, what it links to is this very helpful page.

Morons.

EDIT: If I tell Opera to lie to Sprint and say it's Mozilla or MSIE, I get the page Cazique found (noted in the comments). If I don't, and Opera says, "Hey, this is Opera", the page it gets says only:

This is an example of how to integrate your procedure for your users who have forgotten their passwords.

For help with your password, contact portal support at (555) 555-5555.

The portal support representative will help you log in.

Hence my less-than-impressedness. Somewhat less unimpressed now, but still kind of unimpressed. Bad web programmers. No cookie.

I always want to shout "Morons" when I call my DSL helpline to find out how long I'll be without DSL service only to be told that I should check the website.

I don't get it.

Why would anybody without a working PCS phone even want to contact Sprint customer support?

What's the problem here?

OK, I'll play. I know i'm known to miss obvious stuff from time to time, but what's wrong with this? If you want to check your account, not sure what the problem is w/this method of getting you your pw... not sure what i'm missing here. sorry if i'm a dumbass (for this or otherwise)

Those aren't directions for getting your password; those are directions for how the webmaster should set up the page. Hence, "your procedure for your users" and the utterly bogus number "(555) 555-5555".

I must have missed the version you saw, I see a page that asks me for my PCS phone number so they can send me a txt message with a password.

Interesting. I got the page Sprint wants you to see and was unimpressed by the fact that any idiot who finds/steals your phone can get your password. If you're a good person and you use different passwords for everything you do, then this doesn't seem like it would be a bad thing, but I imagine, though I don't know, that your account page contains, at the very least, your name and billing address, and could easily include bank account information, call log details, and other information enormously useful to an identity thief.

If you're a bad person and don't use different passwords for everything you do, well then you deserve whatever happens to you.

There's a reason I switched from Sprint. (Other than that my new house, located in a beautiful hurricane prone area, gets horrid Sprint reception.)

It seems they've made it easier to get a password... I think you used to have to call them and stay on hold for hours on end waiting for a human to help you out.

Heh...

Thanks -- from an Opera 5 user who is constantly annoyed by "better than you" web sites that shut you out, proclaiming "you must download the latest M$ browser to even beg to lick our boots".

Since IE6 doesn't even load on Win95, it will be a cold day...
