tahnanAfter posting the last entry, I suddenly said, "Oh. What activity do I take part in where it'd be handy to have help recognizing famous people?"
So I took, as representative, this puzzle. According to MyHeritage, the people are, giving only the first two names and anything amusing after that
1. Erich Maria Remarque, Bill Gates (or Christina Aguilera)
3. Elvis Presley, Bill Haley (or Eddie Murphy)
7. It only picked out the three rightmost people, who are, apparently, Stephen Fry and L. Frank Baum (standing) and Felix Klein (kneeling). Runnersup for the kneeling man are Nicole Kidman, Elisha Cuthbert, George W. Bush, and Zhou Enlai.
8. No matches at all.
12. I couldn't even bring myself to try.
13. It actually got this one right! Good heavens!
14. Liam Neeson? Ernst Junger?
17. It only found the guy on the right. That's Johnny Depp. Or Helen Clark. (Barbra Streisand?)
After that the site started slowing down, but I think the Mystery Hunt is safe from image recognition for another year.
