At the 1983 Oscars, in three of the four acting categories, someone was nominated for a role that required substantial screen time in drag. Who, for what movies? Bonus question: two of those movies were the movie debuts of actresses who were nominated for Oscars in 1989. Which two actresses?

Not necessarily very hard; but I thought it was mildly interesting, anyway.

Drag movies?

Let me try:
John Lithgow, World According to Garp
Dustin Hoffman, Tootsie
Julie Andrews, Victor/Victoria.

The second question I only know one:
Jessica Lange?

I'm also drunk. I apologize if I sound like a whack!

Those are the right three drag roles. Though Lange won an Oscar for Tootsie, it wasn't her debut film; and she wasn't nominated in 1989.

T'only one I know at all is Dustin Hoffman for Tootsie. I figured looking it up was cheating. :)

I know Hoffman for sure. I would guess that maybe there was a supporting actor in Tootsie as well who might be in drag (I haven't actually seen the movie.)

No clue on the 1989 part. I'm much better at nineties Oscar trivia.

Yentl, perhaps? I caught the tail end of that on TV last night and noted that it was dated 1983.

Indeed it was--making it a candidate in the 1984 Oscars. (Only Amy Irving was nominated for acting from it.)
